Exterior

Exterior painting

Exterior painting protects your window frames, woodwork and facades against rain, UV and temperature changes. A good coat prevents wood rot and considerably extends the life of the woodwork.

Exterior painting

Our approach to exterior painting

We first check the condition of frames, sealant joints and existing coats. Loose paint is removed and minor wood damage repaired before the new coats are applied. Where sealant joints have hardened or come loose, we renew them so moisture cannot get behind the woodwork.

We then sand the woodwork, prime bare and repaired areas and apply the finishing coats. The number of coats depends on the surface and the colour choice.

When to carry out exterior painting

The best period usually runs from early spring to late autumn, when temperature and humidity are stable enough for the paint to dry and adhere well. We do not paint in frost or persistent rain.

Combining exterior painting with other work

Many clients combine exterior painting with wood repair, facade maintenance, or a scaffolding rental in the same project — that way it only requires a single setup on-site instead of scheduling separate visits. As part of CrumBouw and GoedkoopSteigerHuren.nl, we can arrange scaffolding directly if your project requires working at height.

What it costs, and what if it can’t wait

We don’t quote a fixed price per square metre for exterior painting, because the condition of the woodwork affects the price so much — see our explanation of what determines the cost. If the situation is urgent, for example active wood rot or storm damage, see our page on urgent painting needs.

Frequently asked questions

How long does exterior painting last?

Depending on the surface, weather exposure and the system used, exterior paintwork typically lasts several years. Frames facing south and west usually need maintenance sooner than those facing north.

Do you also repair wood rot?

Yes. We repair small to medium wood damage before painting. For severe wood rot we advise repairing or replacing the affected part.

Can you work at height?

Yes, we work with ladders, mobile towers or scaffolding depending on the height and access. For larger buildings, scaffolding is included in the quote.

What is the best time of year for exterior painting?

Generally spring through autumn, when the weather is dry and temperatures are moderate enough for paint to cure properly. Urgent repairs, such as active wood rot, are handled outside that window too, to stop the damage spreading.

Do you also paint facades, not just window frames?

Yes, facade painting and maintenance is part of our exterior work, alongside frames, doors and other woodwork.

What determines the price of exterior painting?

Mainly the surface area, the condition of the woodwork, accessibility and the number of coats needed. Poorly maintained woodwork requires more preparation and therefore weighs more heavily in the price. See our full breakdown of what determines the cost.

Do you offer a guarantee on exterior work?

Guarantee terms are agreed upfront and set out clearly in the quote, so you know what to expect before we start.

What if I only need cladding or fascia boards painted, not the whole exterior?

That’s no problem. Smaller jobs such as cladding, fascia boards or a single set of frames are handled with the same care as a full exterior repaint.

Can exterior painting wait if I only notice small issues now?

Minor issues such as hairline cracks in old paint are usually fine to schedule as regular maintenance. Active wood rot or exposed, untreated wood is better addressed sooner — see our page on urgent painting needs if that applies to you.

Do you also handle doors as part of exterior painting?

Yes, front doors and other exterior doors are part of our exterior work, alongside window frames, facades and other woodwork.
